These Thai Prawn Smash Tacos are crispy, juicy, and full of bold Thai flavor—perfect for a weeknight dinner or casual gathering.
1 lb raw prawns, peeled and deveined
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 scallions, finely chopped
1 tsp fish sauce
1 tsp lime zest
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
Salt to taste
Tortillas (6 small)
Shredded cabbage
Cilantro, Thai basil
Red onion, thinly sliced
Fresh red chili (optional)
Sauce: 1/4 cup mayo, 1 tbsp sriracha, 1 tsp lime juice, 1 tsp honey
Lime wedges, peanuts or crispy shallots for garnish
1. Roughly chop prawns and mix with garlic, scallions, fish sauce, lime zest, sesame oil, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
2. Heat skillet over medium-high with a little oil.
3. Scoop spoonfuls of prawn mixture into skillet and smash flat with spatula.
4. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
5. Warm tortillas and prep toppings.
6. Assemble tacos with smashed prawns, slaw, herbs, sauce, and garnish.
7. Serve immediately with lime wedges.
Prawn mixture can be prepped ahead.
Leftover patties reheat well in a hot skillet.
