A comforting and flavorful dish that combines cornbread with herbs, vegetables, and broth, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups crumbled cornbread (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2-3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage (or 1 teaspoon dried sage)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 cup cooked sausage or vegetables of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the chopped onion and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine crumbled cornbread, sautéed vegetables, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add broth until the mixture is moist but not soggy. Adjust to taste.
  5. Transfer to a greased baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top.

Notes

For a crispier top, broil the dressing for a few minutes at the end. Using day-old cornbread gives the best texture.
