Delightful Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls with the warm flavors of cinnamon and apples, perfect for breakfast or any sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk (or non-dairy milk)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter (or coconut oil)
  • 2 cups diced apples (any variety)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for icing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, flour, milk, sugar, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm area for about 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle.
  5. Spread melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and diced apples.
  6. Roll the dough tightly and slice it into individual rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before icing with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For best texture, add a little extra flour while kneading to avoid stickiness. Ensure to store the rolls covered to maintain moisture.
