Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (any fat level)
  • 1 small head green cabbage, cored and sliced thin
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp oil (or use the fat from the beef)
  • 1 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or smoked paprika
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • Optional: soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce for extra umami

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil.
  2. Add ground beef. Break into pieces and brown until no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
  6. Add sliced cabbage and pour in beef broth or water. Stir to combine.
  7. Cover and cook 5–8 minutes, stirring once, until cabbage is tender but not mushy.
  8. Remove lid, cook another 1–2 minutes to reduce liquid if needed. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  9. Serve hot over rice or noodles, or with bread.

Notes

For a fuller meal, add diced potatoes or carrots at the start or stir in cooked rice at the end.
