2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a mixing bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until coated.
Spread the apples evenly into a buttered 10-inch cast-iron skillet.
In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a fork or fingertips until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbly
Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
You can substitute pears, peaches, or mixed berries for the apples.
Make ahead: assemble and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking.
For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping.
