Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small whole turkey (about 10-12 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (like rosemary, thyme, or sage)
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Rinse the turkey inside and out under cold water, then pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and herbs to create a herb butter.
  4. Rub the herb butter all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Place the turkey in a roasting pan breast-side up, and pour the chicken broth into the pan.
  6. Roast the turkey for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the pan juices, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  7. Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

Using a meat thermometer will help you get the right temperature without overcooking. Cover with foil if it starts to brown too quickly. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
