A wholesome and nutritious oatmeal sandwich bread that’s easy to make and perfect for breakfast or lunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or any vegetable oil)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add oats, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add whole wheat flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Let it rise for another 30 minutes, then bake it for 30-35 minutes until brown and hollow-sounding.

Notes

For gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend. For vegan, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
