Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Zest of one orange (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and pick out any stems or bad berries.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the rinsed cranberries to the pan and bring to a boil.
  4. Lower the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, until the cranberries pop and the sauce thickens.
  5. If using, stir in the orange zest.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool. The sauce will thicken more as it cools.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, blend it after cooling. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
