A bold, smooth, and low-bitter cold brew coffee recipe that offers café-quality flavor at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup coarsely ground coffee (about 85100 g)
  • 4 cups cold filtered water (950 ml)
  • Ice, for serving
  • Optional: milk or cream (dairy or non-dairy)
  • Optional: sweetener (simple syrup, maple syrup, or honey)
  • Optional: flavor add-ins (vanilla extract, orange peel, cinnamon stick, or cocoa)

Instructions

  1. Grind whole beans to a coarse, breadcrumb-like texture.
  2. Add the grounds to a large jar, pitcher, or French press.
  3. Pour in the cold water and stir slowly to wet all the grounds.
  4. Cover the container to keep out fridge odors and place it in the refrigerator.
  5. Let the coffee and water sit for flavors to develop (12-18 hours).
  6. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter or use a French press plunger.
  7. Serve by diluting the concentrate 1:1 with water or milk, adding ice, and sweetening to taste.

Notes

Steep longer for stronger brew; taste at 12 hours and do not exceed 24 hours to avoid bitterness.
