Delicious and comforting fritters with warm cinnamon and apples, perfect for fall.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  3. Stir the wet and dry mixtures until just combined; fold in the diced apples.
  4. In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop batter by spoonfuls into hot oil in batches, cooking for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  6. Remove fritters to a wire rack or paper towels to drain.
  7. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon for the glaze until smooth.
  8. Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters and dust with extra powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Ensure the oil temperature is hot enough before frying and avoid overcrowding the pot.
