This rich, nutty brown butter cream cheese frosting is smooth, fluffy, and packed with flavor perfect for cakes, cupcakes, muffins, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 8 oz full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 2–3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden and nutty. Let cool slightly.
  • Beat the softened cream cheese and cooled brown butter until smooth.
  • Slowly add sifted powdered sugar while continuing to mix.
  • Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  • Whip until fluffy and fully combined. Adjust texture with a splash of milk or extra sugar if needed.

Notes

  • Use block-style cream cheese (not whipped or spreadable) for best structure.
  • If the frosting seems too soft, refrigerate for 15–20 minutes and re-whip.
  • Sifting powdered sugar helps achieve a smooth, lump-free finish.
